Reckon accounting software was created for and released in the Australian market in 1987 when accounting software in Australia was gaining traction. Reckon is a global business listed on the Australian stock exchange with operations in the United Kingdom, The United States and New Zealand.
In the early 90s, Reckon acquired distribution rights to Quickbooks accounting software products in Australia. With the support of Quickbooks, Reckon quickly became one of the market leaders in the accounting software space in Australia, rivalling MYOB for the dominant position.
Fast forward to today, and Reckon has multiple products targeted at the small business sector. Reckon Accounts and Reckon One are the two flagship product offerings, with the latter only being released into the marketplace within the last three years. Reckon One is a cloud-based product, and Reckon Accounts offers a desktop and cloud-based service.
The brand now holds a diminishing share of Australia's small business accounting software market. With Intuit, the owner of Quickbooks, releasing their new Quickbooks Online product in Australia, the relationship between Intuit and Reckon has been terminated. It is probably the catalyst for the development of Reckon One in the hope of increasing market share.
